Alabama Hills is not in Alabama.  Often referred to as the budget Joshua Tree experience, Alabama Hills may break the budget on the impressive views of Mt Whitney and the Sierra Nevadas.

The Alabama Hills are a range of hills and rock formations near the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada just west of Lone Pine off highway 395 on the way to Mammoth Mountain

This was the second stop on our 4 night trip, with 2 nights of cold and windy Trona Pinnacles behind us, we were ready for a change of scenery – we did find that change but were unable to escape the cold, strong winds. being able to fill up our propane tank in Lone Pine we had no issues with the cold, warm and cozy inside with the heater set on low. We did get beautiful skies, although it can be cold in January, we were prepared and enjoyed our time hiking around the formations

Watching the cresent moon set behind the sierras was a highlight of the evening – being able to image a nice Polaris star trail shot was a bonus
